Use these 10 quick and easy teen decorating ideas to give your bedroom a touch of personality and a whole new look.
Creating your own space that says something about who you are is not an easy task, especially when you live in someone else’s house and under their rules, but there are ways that teens can decorate their rooms without destroying them. Use some or all of the following quick and easy teen decorating tips to create a bedroom that reflects your personality and is super cool. Accent WallRather than painting the entire room, consider giving your room an accent wall that will brighten it up and change the mood without all the work of painting the whole thing. This may be more acceptable to your parents, especially if you promise to paint it back some day in the future. CurtainsNo-sew curtains are easy to make and quickly change your view. If you can’t find a fabric you like at a craft store consider using iron-on paper and a printer and creating your own pattern with photos of family, friends and pets. Or buy some plain fabric and fabric or permanent pens and create your own patterns. Dumpster DivingScour the neighborhood right before the garbage men come (especially useful in a college town when the students move) or search garage sales for old wood furniture that is structurally sound. Turning old furniture into new is a little time-consuming and requires some work, but the results are worth it. New BeddingSince the bed takes up most of the space in your bedroom, look for new bedding in eye-catching colors. Many discount department stores carry inexpensive bedding in a huge variety of colors. Change the LightingAdd a unique glow to your room by buying a colored lampshade for your existing lamps or use stained glass paint, available at any craft store, to paint a clear globe for overhead light fixtures. You can even rework an entire lamp by painting and embellishing it yourself. Clean it UpMost teens are constantly being told to clean their rooms, so make it easy on yourself by finding storage options that are easy for you to work with, something that slides under your bed, a set of cubes with Velcro-attached curtains to hide the contents, crates in the closet to hold additional stuff. A room with less clutter instantly looks better. Decoupage ArtworkPurchase a huge canvas, or several smaller ones, from a craft store and then decoupage them with cutouts of your favorite things. Decoupage is easy; you basically just glue cut-out images down and then cover with a final coat of decoupage. You can cover the canvas with anything you like from pictures of friends to postcards of places you’d like to travel. Divide the SpaceIf your room is large enough, create a new space by dividing it up. Use a pre-made shoji screen to divide the space or create your own by screwing hinges into three canvasses which you have decorated yourself. Or install a track and hang a curtain which can be tied back or pushed aside to open the space. Wall StickersTraditional stickers and adhesives can ruin a wall, so these are probably not going to go over well with your parents, but there are new removable wall stickers that are fantastic and should be a hit with you and your parents. You can order these in a variety of styles so you can have your favorite sports teams, characters, pictures, patterns and you can even create custom-made ones with your photos. Create an Art GalleryInstall a photo or art rail or hang wire that artwork can be hung from and cover the room with your favorite works of art or your own creations.
