Choosing the right paint color for a bedroom is crucial for the overall look and feel of the room. For help, consider the popular color trends for master bedrooms.

When it comes to decorating a master bedroom, choosing a paint color is probably one of the most important decisions to make. The right paint color can totally transform the look and feel of the room. It can be soft and relaxing or bright and inviting, depending on personal tastes.

Use Fabric and Bedding as Color Inspiration

The color of the room should complement the items that you already have in the room, including curtains, bed linens and pillows as a few examples. Take fabric swatches or pillows to the store when picking out paint chips. This will provide a rough starting point for choosing a color.

Bring Home Paint Samples

Bring home as many paint chips as possible. Bringing the paint chips home to the bedroom setting will make it easier to narrow down the choices. Some paint stores, such as Home Hardware, offer larger color swatches available in sheets rather than small chips. Purchasing home design software is also a good idea. By uploading a photo of your bedroom you can see what the room would look like in different colors.

Once you've decided on one or two choices, it's highly recommended to purchase a sample paint can of that color. This way you can avoid painting the entire room and not liking it at the end.

Remember that paint colors look different in different types of lighting so be sure to view the color in natural and artificial lighting conditions. Also, keep in mind that paint colors tend to look a bit darker once on the wall than the color on the sample chip.

Paint colors can also affect the appearance of the size of the room. Darker colors will make larger rooms feel cozier, while lighter colors will make smaller rooms feel bigger and more airy.

Paint Color and Emotions

We all know that colors spark emotions. So before choosing a color decide on the mood or atmosphere that you want to create in the room. For a relaxing and calming mood, stick to the cool colors such as blues and greens. The warm colors of reds and oranges will make the room feel more vibrant and inviting. Deep colors such as royal purples and blues are viewed as more luxurious, while brighter colors are more cheerful and playful.
