A wiggly new baby boy will fit right in with an adorable puppy theme nursery. Here are crib sets, creative decorating ideas, and accent décor to make a puppy dog bedroom

Cute puppies make for one of the sweetest little boy nursery motifs. Plus, with beloved canine characters like Clifford, Snoopy, 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, it’s easy to find adorable décor.

Start with the Walls for the Puppy Theme Nursery

Wallpaper options abound depicting puppies set against just about every color, but decorators might also opt for the more affordable coat of paint. The theme works equally well in soft shades of pastel and happy primary hues. With this in mind, parents may want to choose bedding and accent pieces to help select their foundation color for the wall.

Once the walls are covered, parents can add a puppy theme wallpaper border or try their hand at stencils. Some may want to attempt a mural depicting a favorite doggy character or original puppies sitting near their dog house,, digging to hide a yummy bone, chasing after a butterfly, or romping with a ball. Peel and stick wall decals or wallpaper murals are an equally attractive option.

Several popular nursery rhymes such as Old Mother Hubbard, Oh Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?, How Much Is That Doggy in the Window?, Higglety Pigglety Pop, Hey Diddle Diddle, and I Sent a Letter to My Love are based on puppies and would look great on display. Parents can either stencil the poems on the wall, or frame computer printouts of the rhymes in a nice font accompanied with cute puppy clip art.

If parents want to take it easy, the doggy theme can be put together with little to no effort. The wide variety of puppy dog growth charts and wall hangings ensure parents will have no problem brightening up the nursery walls.

Bed Sets Crib Sets, Window Treatments, and Area Rugs, for the Puppy Dog Nursery

The adorable puppy dog theme has resulted in quite a few options for crib sets and coordinating accessories. The prices of these sets vary widely. A few of the more popular packages on the market include Mary Angelbreit’s Puppy Dog crib set, Bean Sprout’s Scruffy Puppy Dog bedding set, Cocalo’s Peak A Boo Friends bedding package, Carter’s Puppy Tales crib set, and Bananafish’s Spot bedding set.

Coordinating curtains, wall hangings, area rugs, diaper storage, and lamps accompany most of these crib sets. Do-it-yourself decorators may prefer to make their own curtains and throw pillows from puppy dog print or coordinating fabrics.

A fun area rug for a nursery or bedroom with a hardwood floor can easily be made to fit the puppy theme. Parents can transform an affordable tan carpet by using craft paint to decorate the border with paw prints. Decorators can trace a paw onto a piece of card stock and cut out the print to use what remains as a stencil.

Decorating a Puppy Dog Theme Nursery

Stuffed animal puppies will go a long way to help with their decor. Rocking chairs, beds, dressers, and bookshelves are all great places to tie in the theme with stuffed doggies.

Parents who want to go all out with the puppy dog theme for their baby’s nursery can hunt down a used desk, table, chairs, dresser, or chest of drawers and give them a doggy make-over. Stencils make this a decorating project any parent can tackle.

A toy chest stenciled with puppies, paw prints, bones, dog houses, and a puppy nursery rhyme would make a cute and colorful accent piece. Decorators could make a coordinating wall shelf in no time at all.

For an original toy storage idea, parents could pick up a new dog house. The unique toy box would be an excellent place to toss all the stuffed animals and large toys that clutter a nursery floor.

Higher shelves are a great place to decorate with stuffed animal puppy dogs, and dog themed storybooks. Some great titles include That New Animal by Emily Jenkins, Harry the Dirty Dog by Jene Zion, Wet Dog! By Elise Broach, Angus and the Ducks by Marjorie Flack, The Stray Dog by Mark Simont, Hondo and Fabian by Peter McCarty, Albert the Dog Who Liked to Ride in Taxies by Cynthia Zarin, City Dog by Karla Kuskin, Some Swell Pup by Maurice Sendak, The Bookshop Dog by Cynthia Rylant, My Dog Rosie by Isabelle Harper, No, No, Jack! By Ron Hirsch, and Bark, George by Jules Feiffer. Decorating with books is an inexpensive way parents can brighten up the bedroom and instill a love of reading early.

Parents who have a family pet can personalize the room by framing pictures of the doggy getting to know the newest member of the family. Decorators might also want to search out a Halloween doggy costume at a thrift store or on eBay. Pictures from an in-home photo shoot of a baby dressed up as a cute puppy or sporting puppy dog outfits will look great in the nursery and the scrap book as well.

Parents and older kids can also have fun scoping out a bunch of dog illustrations from the used book store and clip favorite photos with their child. The pictures can be used to decoupage accent pieces for the room such as pencil cans, plaques for the wall, a table and chairs, or nightstand. Touches like these make a puppy theme room feel special and fill it with happy memories.

With these creative ideas, it’s time to bring in the puppies. Red rover, red rover, send a new nursery right over! For more ideas, parents can check out articles on nursery themes including ABCs, barnyard animals, or teddy bears.
