What décor could be more snuggly and adorable for a baby boy's or baby girl's new nursery than teddy bears? Here are creative tips to make the decorating project bearable

Cuddly teddy bears are a trendy yet classic choice for a baby boy’s or baby girl’s nursery motif. Beloved characters such as Paddington Bear and Corduroy can make a great theme for a baby's nursery. Plus, those parents who have stored up a teddy bear collection have most of their décor already.

Start with the Walls for the Teddy Bear Theme Nursery

Wallpaper options abound depicting teddy bears set against just about every color, but decorators might also opt for the more affordable coat of paint. The theme works equally well in soft shades of pastel and happy primary hues. With this in mind, parents may want to choose bedding and accent pieces to help select their foundation color for the wall.

Once the walls are covered, parents can add a teddy bear theme wallpaper border or try their hand at stencils. Some may want to attempt a mural depicting antique toys such as a rocking horse, jack-in-the-box, alphabet blocks, and of course, a cuddly teddy bear. Peel and stick wall decals or wallpaper murals are an equally attractive option.

Several popular nursery rhymes such as Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear and A Bear Went Over the Mountain would look great on display. Parents can either stencil the poems on the wall, or frame computer printouts of the rhymes in a nice font accompanied with cute teddy bear clip art.

If parents want to take it easy, the teddy bear theme can be put together with little to no effort. The wide variety of teddy bear growth charts and wall hangings ensure parents will have no problem brightening up the nursery walls.

Bed Sets Crib Sets, Window Treatments, and Area Rugs, for the Teddy Bear Nursery

The classic look of the teddy bear nursery theme has resulted in quite a few options for crib sets and coordinating accessories. The prices of these sets vary widely. A few of the more popular packages on the market include Eddie Bauer’s Teddy Bear crib bedding set, Patch Magic’s Blue Teddy Bear crib set, Lambs and Ivy’s Teddy Bear Story set, Bright Future’s Teddy Bear crib package, Lambs and Ivy’s Dream Teddy bedding set, and Kids Line’s Twinkle Toes bedding package.

Coordinating curtains, wall hangings, area rugs, diaper storage, and lamps accompany most of these crib sets. Do-it-yourself decorators may prefer to make their own curtains and throw pillows from teddy bear print or coordinating fabrics.

Decorating a Teddy Bear Theme Nursery

Stuffed animal teddy bears will go a long way to help with their decor. Rocking chairs, beds, dressers, and bookshelves are all great places to tie in the theme with teddy bears.

Decorators can emphasize the toy teddy bear theme by framing pages from the well-loved Corduroy Bear storybooks and hanging them in sequence around the nursery. Used bookstores are bound to have several affordable copies of this time-honored literary treasure.

Parents who want to go all out with the teddy bear theme for their baby’s nursery can hunt down a used desk, table, chairs, dresser, or chest of drawers and give them a teddy bear make-over. Stencils make this a decorating project any parent can tackle.

A toy chest stenciled with antique toys like rocking horses, blocks, balls, toy cars, toy planes, spinning tops, and teddy bears would make a cute and colorful accent piece. Decorators could make a coordinating wall shelf in no time at all.

Higher shelves are a great place to decorate with teddy bear figurines, old fashioned toys, a teddy bear collection, and bear themed storybooks. Some great titles include Teddy Bear’s Picnic by Jimmy Kennedy, Brown Paper Teddy Bear by Catherine Allison, The Berenstain Bears by Jan Berenstain, Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear: A Traditional Rhyme by Timothy Bush, Goldilocks and the Three Bears by J. A. Dyer, I Lost My Bear by Jules Feiffer, Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman, Everybody Has a Teddy by Virginia E. Kroll, Good Times With Teddy Bear by David McPhail, and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? By Bill Martin. Decorating with books is an inexpensive way parents can brighten up the bedroom and instill a love of reading early.

Parents can personalize the room by searching out a Halloween teddy bear costume at a thrift store or on eBay. Pictures from an in-home photo shoot of a baby dressed up as an adorable little bear or sporting teddy bear outfits will look great in the nursery and the scrap book as well. And what could be more personal than a treasured teddy bear passed down from mommy or daddy?

Parents and older kids can also have fun scoping out a bunch of teddy bear illustrations from the used book store and clip favorite photos with their child. The pictures can be used to decoupage accent pieces for the room such as pencil cans, plaques for the wall, a table and chairs, or nightstand. Touches like these make a teddy bear theme room feel special and fill it with happy memories.

With creative ideas, decorating a teddy bear theme nursery doesn’t have to be a bear. For more ideas, parents can check out articles on nursery themes including ABCs, barnyard animals, or puppy dogs.
