How to Design a Baby NurseryTips for Getting Started When Decorating the New Baby Room
It's hard to wait for the arrival of a new baby, but one thing that keeps parents busy during those exciting months is decorating the nursery.
Choosing a theme, comfortable rocking chair and soft crib set is a wonderful way to connect with a baby even before the little one arrives. Expectant parents can use their excitement and creativity to create a nursery they can’t wait to bring their baby home to see. Choosing the Theme for a Baby NurseryThe first step in designing the baby’s new nursery is settling on a theme. Parents might choose a theme reflecting a favorite animal or hobby they’re excited to introduce to the new arrival. Some parents choose a theme including animals or shapes with striking black and white patterns to stimulate their new baby. Some parents are simply drawn to a crib set or mural they decide to decorate around. Whatever the case, choosing a theme can be a fun process. Here are just a few options parents might want to consider. Some popular baby boy nursery themes include airplanes, boats, construction vehicles, cowboys and horses, firemen, Peanuts characters, racecars, spaceships, sports and trains. For the theme of a baby girl’s nursery, parents often choose angels, bunnies, butterflies, garden flowers and bugs, ladybugs, lambs and princesses. And for expectant parents who decide to be surprised in the delivery room, some popular themes for both boys and girls are ABCs, barnyard animals, beach fun, bumble bees, circus animals, dragon flies, Dr. Seuss, frogs, jungle, Noah’s Ark, penguins, Peter Rabbit, Precious Moments, puppies, stars and moon, sunshine, rainbows and clouds, teddy bears, undersea creatures, Winnie the Pooh, and zoo animals. Selecting a Focal Point for the Baby NurseryOnce parents have locked in their decorating theme, they can choose a focal point. The nursery’s focal point might be the crib set, a large mural, or cheery wall hanging. Choosing the focal point first will help parents decide on a color scheme and accent pieces for the nursery. Start with the Walls for the Baby NurseryParents can use the color scheme from their focal point to select a nice foundation color for the nursery walls. There are nearly as many ways to cover nursery walls as there are choices for themes. Parents can apply wallpaper that complements their theme or give the walls a fresh coat of paint. They can dress up painted walls by adding a wallpaper border along the ceiling. They might also want to run the border around the middle of the room allowing them to opt for two colors of paint. A popular idea for brightening the nursery’s wall is a colorful mural. Parents can personalize their baby’s nursery by free styling their own masterpiece, painting with stencils, or coming up with an idea to present to an artist. If parents are pressed for time or money, equally attractive options are wallpaper murals or peel-and-stick wall decals. The new walls can be accented with co-ordinating light switch covers, wall hangings, or cross stitch samplers from family. Next, parents will want to add crib sets, curtains, area rugs and furniture to their baby's nursery.
