Here are a flood of ideas for decorating a Noah's Ark baby nursery. The wide variety of animals make the theme an excellent gender neutral option.

A Noah’s Ark theme nursery is a popular selection for baby boys and baby girls. In addition to being absolutely adorable, the Noah’s Ark theme gives new parents a place to store the boat-load of stuffed animals from friends, family, and grandparents. Unlike a jungle, barnyard, or circus theme, there’s literally no animal that doesn’t fit the décor.

Start with the Walls for the Noah’s Ark Theme Nursery

Wallpaper options abound depicting Noah and his ark full of animals, but decorators might also opt for the more affordable coat of paint.

Parents may want to choose bedding and accent pieces first to help select a background paint for the wall. Since Noah’s Ark is such a popular choice for boys and girls, many of the crib sets incorporate shades of soft ivory, pastel yellow, sage, and of course sea foam blue.

Once the walls are covered, parents can add a Noah’s Ark theme wallpaper border or try their hand at animal stencils. Peel and stick wall decals or wallpaper murals are an equally attractive option.

A mural of a soft, pastel rainbow is a project any parent can tackle confidently, thanks to creative ideas like this one from Make a Mural Stencils. If decorators choose to leave the walls a bright ivory or white, a colorful rainbow mural will bring the room to life.

  1. Measure out how wide the bottom of the arch will be.
  2. Mark out the exact midpoint of the bottom of the rainbow.
  3. Hammer a nail into this mark on the wall, but leave a portion of the nail sticking out.
  4. Cut a length of string half as wide as the bottom measurement of the rainbow.
  5. Tie one end of the string to the nail and the other to a piece of chalk.
  6. Pull the string tight and use the chalk to draw an arch. This is the outline of the top of the rainbow.
  7. Shorten the string and reattach the chalk to draw a smaller arch.
  8. Shorten the string again and draw increasingly smaller arches until there are six spaces for color on the rainbow.
  9. Use craft paint to fill in the top arch with red, the next with orange, then yellow, green, blue, and purple.

Bed Sets Crib Sets, Window Treatments, and Area Rugs, for the Noah’s Ark Nursery

Kidsline offers a Noah’s Ark crib set in gender neutral shades of ivory, sage, and tan. Victorian Heart Quilts offers a set with a charming depiction of the ark and animals set against green gingham. Lil’ Kids uses embroidery and appliqué on their Noah’s Ark theme set. A set with detailed embroidery work from Trend Lab is primarily in blue and sage. Crib sets featuring the popular Precious Moments figurines as characters in the beloved Bible story are also extremely popular. Coordinating curtains, wall hangings, area rugs, diaper storage, and lamps accompany most of these crib sets.

Decorating a Noah’s Ark Nursery

Parents should first take stock of the toy box to see what stuffed animals will help with their decor. Rocking chairs, beds, dressers, and bookshelves are all great places to display just about every animal except a unicorn.

Higher shelves are a great place to decorate with precious moments or other collectable figurines depicting the story of Noah’s Ark, Fisher Price’s Little People ark and animals, and storybooks. Parents can display books whose covers illustrate the story of Noah’s Ark such as Noah's Ark by Peter Spier, Two by Two--The Untold Story by Katherine Hewit, or Noah Built an Ark One Day by Colin and Jaqui Hawkins. Parents can also suppliment with books showing illustrations of other Bible stories, and animals of all kinds. Decorating with books is an inexpensive way parents can instill a love of reading early.

Parents can personalize the room by searching out used animal costumes at thrift stores or on eBay. Pictures from an in-home photo shoot of a baby dressed up as adorable animals will nook great in the nursery and the scrap book as well. Touches like these make a Noah’s Ark theme room feel special and fill it with happy memories.

Parents can start assembling stuffed animals two by two for their baby’s Noah’s Ark nursery. For other tips and ideas, decorators can check out articles on more gender neutral nursery themes including ABCs, barnyard, or moon and stars.
