Ideas for a Little Boy's BedroomThings to Keep in Mind When Decorating a Young Boy's Room
Every boy deserves a room that suits his personality and reflects his interests. When decorating a little boy's bedroom remember to keep his unique personality in mind.
Decorating children’s rooms is just as fun and rewarding as decorating any other room in the home – maybe even more so! And to a certain extent, the style of the room should reflect the style of the rest of the home. (This is of course true for little girl's rooms as well.) However, it’s important to make sure that the room reflects the personality of the child residing in it. When it comes to decorating a boy’s bedroom, give him a say in the final product and remember to decorate for the little boy he is, and the young man he will become. Furniture and Accessories for a Little Boy’s BedroomWhen purchasing furniture try to get the best that the budget allows. If the little guy in question is a rough and tumble type, look to sturdy, good quality pieces that will survive the beatings they are surely to take. With any luck the items will make it through to the teenage years and beyond. Organization is key when decorating any little boy’s room. Be sure to install adequate shelving (be it wall mounted shelves, built-in bookcases, or standing shelves) to store books, toys, trophies, and any other knick-knacks he’ll accumulate. Consider using baskets to reign in toys, books, and games. Little boys have lots of artwork, schoolwork, and special awards and ribbons that they like to display. A magnetic board or bulletin board mounted in his room will provide a spot where he can hang his special accomplishments with pride. Make sure that there’s plenty of free floor space for playing, tumbling around, and building forts. When friends come for sleepovers there will be a place to put sleeping bags – or even a tent! Color for a Little Boy’s RoomThere are no right or wrong colors when decorating a boy’s room, so why not let the little boy whose room it will be choose the colors? Not only will he enjoy the overall look, but he’ll feel good that he had a part to play in the decorating. Let him pick the paint color, the bedding, and the fabric for the drapes. As opposed to large pieces of furniture, they’re easy and inexpensive enough to change as gets older. Make use of fun décor accessories like peel-and-stick wall decals that can be easily changed and moved around. There are so many varieties and styles available that he’ll be sure to find some he likes. Or how about novelty drawer pulls and knobs? They come in all different colors, shapes, and sizes, and they can be inexpensive. Lamps are also an easy and budget-friendly way to add color to a little boy’s room. Again, let him choose the ones he likes, and let him take part in the decorating process. A colorful rug is also a great idea for a little boy’s bedroom (although rugs can be expensive so the final decision may be best left to the adults). Make sure that it’s comfy and durable as much play time takes place on the floor. Decorate a Boy's Room for the FutureIt’s always tempting to decorate children’s rooms in a cutesy way, but it’s important to decorate in a way that will suit them as they grow up. Resist the urge to decorate a little boy’s room in a way that will quickly become outdated, and instead decorate his bedroom with items that will adapt to his growing needs. While theme rooms can be tempting, keep in mind that they will have to be redecorated as the little boy grows up and his tastes change. None of this is to say that the room shouldn’t be filled with items he loves, simply that if the entire room is decorated to suit one theme, it will have to be entirely redone if and when he gets a bit older and changes his mind. So the big items should be those that can last for years to come, while smaller, inexpensive items should reflect his current passions.
